Readers of Unreported World News were the first in the world to hear about the seamy – and un-Christian – underside of Larry Bates’ financial empire and precious-metal dealings. Now, the local CBS TV station in Memphis, Bates’ hometown, has taken our lead and aired its own expose of this wolf in sheep’s clothing. Read our first Bates story here.

In Preying on Faith, WREG investigative reporter Keli Rabon brought public scrutiny of Bates’ unscrupulous business practices to a new level. The story was aired on Wednesday and may be repeated on other CBS affiliates in cities where Bates has lots of clients, including Dallas-Fort Worth.

Rabon relied upon our stories, first posted last year, as well as on new interview with us; with former Bates customers whom we suggested, such as Damian Orlowski; and with Randy Hutchinson, the head of the Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South, which also now is investigating Bates.

Typical of Bates’ arrogance in general and disregard for his clients specifically, he refused repeated requests for comment by Rabon. She said she would keep trying to reach him. Bates never did respond to our repeated requests for his explanations when Unreported World News ran our story last year.

Whether he ever responds to the WREG story or to us isn’t all that important at this point. More people are on to him and his methods. May the Lord judge who is right.
