What in the world is going on? You may be wondering, or you may be like most people, numbing yourself in movies and video games.

Isn’t it clear that “entertainment” is an escape many are using today to dull the pain of reality? I keep telling my creative children if they could create some “entertaining” item, they’d be set for life.

Let’s face it: reality hurts. And entertainment distracts. These are the days of Noah that Jesus warned about in Matthew 24. People were consumed with fun even while Noah warned them of the coming flood.

Well, Jesus was born into a culture that worshiped pleasure and riches. Why do you think he was such an offense to the Jewish Pharisees? He said things like, “To find your life your must lose it,” and, “Sell all that you have and give to the poor and then come be my disciple.”

Can you fathom this in Twenty-first Century talk? What form would Jesus’s invitations take in today’s parlance? Would it be akin to how megachurches beg for “tithes” to pay salaries? Would it be like TV “healers” selling prayer cloths? Of course not!

And what did Jesus call the people he was addressing? “Hypocrites” and a “brood of vipers.” Wow! What language our Savior used. I don’t think he would approve of the bestselling self-help book by Dale Carnegie, How to Win Friends and Influence People. Jesus came to “seek and save the lost.” Period. Read Mark 16.

Jesus warned that the greatest characteristic in the days before His return would be deception. Has the world ever been so deceived? Tonight my 11-year-old asked me if I remember when the internet was invented. I laughed, and I said, “of course, Andrew.”

In fact, I’ve been watching for a world technological system that would allow the whole world to worship the Antichrist since 1973. That is a long time! I got saved in that year and came to know Jesus as my personal Savior, as John 3:16 explains. The internet is obviously a big part of whatever system the Antichrist ends up controlling.
