The U.S. Treasury announced that our government added another $80 billion to the cumulative budget deficit in December.
This actually seems to be the good news. However, because of the income tax relief package passed in December by the White House and congress it looks like still higher deficits can be expected.
The earliest deficit forecast to $1.42 trillion appears to be optimistic due to the most recent series of tax cuts.
It looks like 2011 is certain to be the 3rd year in a row of $1 trillion-plus deficits for Washington.
At this point, it seems like a no-win condition for an upcoming battle on how to bail the U.S. out. Should Washington raise the debt ceiling and force the shortfall higher or paralyze the population by voting against the rising debt ceiling?
Do you realize that many major states and more than one hundred cities could go broke this year?
The Federal Administration has two choices: either to permit the cities and states to fail, or bail them out with taxpayer money. This is a no win situation.
